Lackadaisical Cat

Vahaadi, in the style of Lackadaisy Cats by stellar webcomic artist, Tracy Butler.

Oh my gosh. Call me lame, but when I saw him the first thing that popped into my head was Pinkie Pie's line "Hold on. I am just about to be BRILLIANT!" because that's exactly you when it comes to this drawing. You captured the style REALLY well! And yet... he is unmistakably Vahaadi-- he doesn't look like a rip off of one of her characters. His stocky (short) posture gives him a slight adorableness, but over all he comes across mostly as capable, complicated and impressive. You have a really nice mix of simplicity (like his pants) and detail (jewelry, face, etc) so that it feels very balanced, and there's a lot of motion going on here. I LOVE THIS. Thank you for drawing it so quickly :D There's almost even a little art nouveau the brush tip of his tail and his waist wrap. <3~~~

Lackadaisy is AWESOME. Just sayin'.

Also, this is cuuuuuuuute. And it makes his non-facial characteristics much more clear, of all things... I guess when he's drawn normally, I'm always looking at his expression, whereas in this chibi-ish form it's his tail, clothing, and accessories that stand out more. I somehow never, ever noticed the number of earrings.

Aw hahaha I love that Pinkie quote! I'm so glad you like him! I'm really relieved that he looks like himself--I didn't think he'd show through without his emo haircut, but in Lackadaisy Cat world distinctive hairstyles are evidently a female-only trait, so that was a no go. Once I darkened his eyelids and added his beard and eyebrows, he immediately changed from being a bad copy of Tracy's sketches to Vahaadi! :D I was anticipating that he'd most closely resemble Zib, but I actually ended up using Mordecai as my reference. I was trying to think of how he might fit into a fanon, but I got nothing besides just some exotic entertainer (VERY exotic in 20s America). He would never get involved in bootlegging. Alcohol is one of the few vices he DOESN'T have.

Aryn: <3 Thaaaaanks. Haha, Vahaadi does love his earrings. There used to be a story behind why he has so many, but it was dark and unpleasant and I'm content now to scrap it and blame his piercings on vanity and general rebel-without-a-cause swagger. He has been drawn with anywhere from two piercings to eight ( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v64/Progolo/References/Sahin%20Vahaadi/sahinbylancha.jpg o.o )in each ear by me and various commissioned artists. Hm. I should actually probably decide on an exact count and placing. At minimum I'd say two in the lobe, two near the tips, and at least one in the helix (haha, I had to look up a chart to find the right term) but he probably has more and may not use them all at once unless he wants to be extra ostentatious.
