Watercolor Talent, I ain't.

I decided to draw Spark as a Disney Fairy today (ala Tinkerbell and friends) and tried to emulate the style of the storybook illustrations, which called for large, widely set almond-shaped eyes, a pixie nose, wide hips, and watercolor over graceful pencil lines. So I dusted off the watercolor set that's been languishing in my cabinet and my Disney Fairies artbook and took on the challenge! Unfortunately I'm not thrilled with the result, but it was a welcome way to spend the day.

Spark is a Fire Talent fairy, tasked with overseeing natural wildfires that help to rejuvenate forests and grasslands. Her job is chaotic and dangerous, just as she likes it.

I wanted to make Spark look right at home in Pixie Hollow so I also gave her a new leaf-and-flower outfit for her new Fairy body.

While I was working on this, I took a couple of photos to document the process. The quality isn't great because the photos are from my phone, but if you're curious, take a gander: Process!

I drew Vahaadi as a Fairy too (ahem, "Sparrowman") much to his dismay. Poor guy, how many ways can I think of to emasculate you? Ahaha anyway, I decided not to bother with watercolors and just slapped some Photoshop flats onto the pencil sketch. I like the results a lot better.

Vahaadi is a Dust-Talent, responsible for delivering the freshly ground pixie dust to fellow denizens of Pixie Hollow. While he generally ensures that everyone gets their serving, he's certainly not above pilfering more than his fair share of dust from the mill and has amassed quite an avaricious hoard, which he uses to get into all sorts of hedonistic mischief.

Like Spark, I changed his proportions to try and match the style of the story illustrations. His angular "Fairy" face cracks me up. I promise, Vahaadi, the next thing I draw of you will be manly! DX (well, after I draw you as a pony that is, haha)

Since I'm posting Disney Fairy stuff I thought I'd toss this up, too--it's a quick simple CG of Rani, a Water Talent Fairy. I drew her for a collaborative project with my sister LC on Gaia last year, thus it's signed with my username "Inkdust."

The style was supposed to be chibi, but it turned out sort of odd...I thought about just throwing this away, but, eh. Even though I don't like it, maybe somebody does.

...In conclusion I'm pretty "ehhhhh" about all of this art. >\ I need to draw a Disney Fairies piece I actually LIKE!

Wooooow! You were busy today! I love it! Spark looks beautiful and so cute. I love her new outfit. The pokey-ness of the leaves suits her, as does the pixie-face. Vahaadi looks SO nice! :D His pose is great. Their talents match them so perfectly~! Oooh, Fairy Mary wouldn't be pleased that Vahaadi's stealing pixie dust though... Tink, on the other hand, would choose him over Terrance any day. I wonder if Vahaadi would like Tinkerbell. I mean, she's kinda like Spark, only more nerdy.

I was, it was wonderful! I got up, had breakfast, read scriptures, and then from about 8:30 am to 5 pm I worked on art! :D Oh my goodness, the thought of Fairy Mary chewing out Vahaadi is really funny XD I have no idea how he'd react to having someone like her go matron-mode on him. Spark and Vahaadi are supposed to look like they're interacting--I think she's in on his pilfering ways and has agreed to keep quiet if he'll share. XP To her it's not stealing, it's a better utilization of resources. "Do you know how much Pixie Dust it takes to start a fire? I totally should get extra to make up the difference!"

Wow, I don't know if Vahaadi would like Tinkerbell. I think not, but that's because *I* don't like Tinkerbell. I should watch some of the movies again and think about it. I need to explore how he interacts with females in general--I keep figuring he just avoids them, but that's hardly practical.

*thumbs up* Cute.
I think I have more to say, but I'm crawling back into bed now. Sick. I could totally see Spark as a fire fairy, but I bet she gets into trouble sometimes for going overboard.

I didn't see the fairy movies. Why are they called fairies when it's pixie dust that makes you fly?

*pets* D: feel better soon!

PFT undoubtedly. She's a walking fire hazard. When I mentioned to Evie that Spark would be the little girl that played with matches I was informed that little Spark would rather play with firecrackers because matches were too boring. o_O

Bahaha I don't know. XD Pixie and Fairy are used interchangeably in Tink's world so it could probably be called Fairy Dust too and no one would bat an eyelash.

Working on it!

It's true-- matches are a bit dull. But I think child-Spark would be more fascinated by the sparklers on the 4th of July-- those wands with the little fizzing noise that throw harmless gold sparks in all directions for like a half hour? They last longer than firecrackers, plus her parents would be more likely to allow her to play with them. Those things are great for kids (and adults).

Hm.
